Washington, D.C. – April 16, 2019
– The Government of the District of Columbia Office of Contracting and Procurement awarded Unity Health Care the Department of Corrections (DOC) Inmate Comprehensive Medical Services contract to provide medical and behavioral health services within the DC jail facilities.

In 2006, Unity developed and implemented the first comprehensive community-oriented correctional health care model in the country at the Department of Corrections. Nationally recognized as an innovative and quality correctional health care model, Unity has managed services at the DC jail facilities and provided continuity of care for inmates upon release for the past 12 years.

The award will allow Unity Health Care, in partnership with the Department of Corrections, to continue to deliver and improve upon current medical services through the delivery of evidence-based and trauma-informed care. Behavioral health services will also see a significant shift as Unity works to expand the focus on therapeutic programming and continuity of care in the community. Unity will also provide enhanced screening and treatment for Hepatitis C and further expansion of the existing medication assisted treatment (MAT) program to help combat opioid abuse.  The MAT program will be among top priorities in support of the District’s citywide opioid strategic plan.

“We are pleased to continue providing high quality care in partnership with the Department of Corrections at the DC jail facilities.  The patients we serve at the DC jail facilities represent a vulnerable part of our community. Through improvement of their individual health outcomes, we believe these efforts will lead to a positive impact on the health of the entire DC community” said Vincent Keane, President and CEO of Unity Health Care.

The award effective date was Monday, April 15, 2019.
