Unity Health Care Announces Its 2017 Inaugural Winter Ball Award Honorees
Washington, D.C. – November 8, 2017 – Unity Health Care (Unity) is proud to announce the 2017 award honorees at its Inaugural Winter Ball, to be held on December 1, 2017. Unity Health Care's Inaugural Winter Ball began over 10 years ago as the Annual Benefit, the premier fundraising affair for Unity Health Care. Rebranded in 2017 as the Winter Ball, this evening supports primary medical and supportive care in the lives of more than 106,000 District residents.
The event, to be held at Dock 5 at Union Market (1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC) on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm, is sure to delight attendees with our “Providing the Heart in Health Care”theme, a strolling dinner, and dancing. We will celebrate our team-based approach to health care and achievements from the past year to include opening two in-house pharmacies at our Parkside and Upper Cardozo Health Center locations.
Unity is pleased to continue the tradition of honoring two special individuals for the Partners in Caring Award and the Dr. Jesse B. Barber, Jr. Community Health Care Award. The awards acknowledge individual commitment to improving the lives of District residents through time and financial resources and health care advocacy for vulnerable populations.
This year’s Honorees include:
2017 Partners in Caring Award Honoree: Steve Bennet, President and CEO, BenComm is a valuable partner who shares his time, commitment and financial resources to support Unity’s work in our most vulnerable communities. Support from Mr. Bennet and BenComm, through six years as our title sponsor for our annual charity golf outing, has steadily increased Unity’s capacity to continue to provide high-quality, accessible, healthcare for Unity’s patients.
2017 Dr. Jesse B. Barber, Jr. Community Health Care Award Honoree: Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick, President, Howard University has made significant contributions through research to address health disparities among African Americans and historically underrepresented groups. Among his work as Howard University President and a trained physician, Dr. Frederick has been an essential partner with Unity to improve the health and lives of the thousands of patients Unity serves. Dr. Frederick’s personal efforts, leadership, and commitment in the field of health care advocacy are an inspiration and a true testament to the dedication of improving the lives of others.
“Unity is honored to recognize two visionary and creative people Dr. Frederick and Steve Bennet, who supports the mission and work of Unity in D.C. BenComm, under Steve’s leadership, has been a major benefactor and supporter of Unity for many years, and Howard under the leadership of Dr. Frederick has continuously strived to improve health outcomes for our communities. Our Winter Ball will be a great occasion to honor two extraordinary leaders, support a great cause and have fun,” as stated by Vincent Keane, President and CEO, Unity Health Care.
The event is expected to gather nearly 200 guests who will enjoy a strolling dinner, an interactive art installation, and dancing.
